Grey Tit Melaniparus afer (551)
(Piet-tjou-tjou-grysmees)
Experiences with species

This was a bird I "needed" for my life list late in 2008, and would also help push me towards my goal of 700 species in that calendar year. After searching likely spots for it, we failed, and went off to wait for Sclater's Larks to pop in and drink. Imagine my surprise when my lifer of this species landed on my wing mirror! I have seen them in a few other places now, including the other arens subspecies up in the Lesotho highlands.

Other names: Southern Grey Tit
