Lesser Flamingo Phoeniconaias minor (97)
IUCN Red list status: Near threatened
(Kleinflamink)
Experiences with species

These strange birds are fairly common on large water bodies. I have seen them amongst other places at Kamfers Dam in Kimberley, Barberspan in North West, Marievale in Gauteng, Leeuwpan near Leandra and Implats Dam near Rustenburg. They are distibguishable from the Greater Flamingo by their dark bill and shorter neck, as well as the smaller overall size.
